What Cause Sudden Demyelinating Disease?

My 64 yo husband had a MRI of the brain for dizziness and headaches. This revealed diffuse volume loss with mild white matters changes. It also mentioned left lateral ventricle could be seen with demyelinating pathology. What does this suggest in terms of a diagnosis?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sudden demyelinating disease. Well a demyelinating disease is any condition that results in damage to the protective covering (myelin sheath) that surrounds nerve fibers in your brain and spinal cord. It's considered an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. A combination of genetics and environmental factors appears to be responsible. I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper diagnosis and treatment . Doctor may prescribe oral prednisone and intravenous methylprednisolone , plasmapheresis , Beta interferons or copaxone . You can also take muscle relaxant and go for physical therapy .
