Hi,

The possible causes of your problem are:
- While being on intrauterine contraceptive device sometimes inter-menstrual spotting can be seen as a side effect.
- Women with Intrauterine contraceptive devices are more prone for pelvic infections, sometimes they can present as cervical erosion and can lead to postcoital bleeding.

As the problem is recurring, better to get evaluated. By clinical examination and investigations like pap smear and ultrasound the possible cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly. In case of side effect due to the intrauterine contraceptive device, symptomatic use of anti-fibrinolytic drugs can help in decreasing the bleeding. If infection is the cause, you may need systemic and local antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
