What Are The Treatment Options For Urethral Stricture Other Than Penile Reconstruction?

I have had a urethral stricture for 12 years as a result of a TUNA operation by a urologist. I self catheterized about once a month during the 12 years. I have also had a TURP due to voiding problems and I recently underwent an unsuccessful urethrostomy to try and relax the scar. I am currently self catheterizing twice a month and I am so sick of operations that I m beginning to develop mental health problems over this issue. I m told that the only solution is a penile reconstruction and that really scares me but I ll do it if that s the only solution. Could anyone please give me any advice on what alternatives are available or please recommmend a specialist in urethral stricture repair in the Austin, Texas area?

Hello
Thanks for query .

You had developed iatrogenic stricture after endoscopic surgery of TUNA and have been carrying on with self dilation for 12 years .

Looking at he duration of stricture since 12 years the scar tissue in urethra (Spingifibrosis ) has become to tough and hard to get incised by doing Urothrotomy which was attempted very recently .

In a given situation it is always adivisable to go for open surgery of Urothroplasty which involves excision of stricture segment of urethra and replace it with Buccal Mucosa Graft what is called as Buccal Mucosa Urothroplasty.((BMG)

This is rewarding surgery and gives permanent cure to have pain free and normal voiding .
