What Are The Symptoms Of Poison Ivy Rash?

I think my son may have a poison ivy rash. He developed a rash on his upper thigh after we went blueberry picking. My dad went with us and developed the same rash. Both were wearing shorts- both developed the rash very close to the groin area. My sons rash seemed to go away quickly- my dad s spread to all over his body. Today my sons rash is back in the groin area. Is it possible that it is poison ivy even in an area that wasn t directly exposed? There were signs at the farm stating to be careful of poison ivy and the rash first appeared that same evening

Hi. Welcome to HCM
It definitely seems like an allergic rash since it developed suddenly in both of them after the same outdoor activity. It could be due to poison ivy. And yes, rashes can appear away from the site of the contact as well based on the immune reaction in the body.
It may also be due to other allergic plants or insects during the trip. In any case the treatment will be similar. Apply a soothing calamine lotion to the affected areas 2-3 times a day or whenever there is irritation or itching. If severe rash you can apply a light layer of steroid cream like mometasone only on the rash for 3-5 days . Along with this take an antihistamine lie levocet 5mg or fexofenadine daily for about a week.
If the rash is severe and still spreading, I advise you to go to the ER and get a cortisone and antihistamine shot and then continue the medicines a s advised.
The rash will subside. If it seems to be spreading or persisting, consult your dermatologist. Hope this helps.
