Hi,

Udiliv (ursodeoxycholic acid) is commonly used for the treatment of gallstones, especially in patients who are not candidates for surgery or who wish to avoid surgery. It works by reducing the production and absorption of cholesterol, which can help dissolve gallstones or prevent them from forming.

The most common side effects of Udiliv are mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms usually subside over time, but if they persist or become severe, it is important to consult a doctor. Rare side effects include skin rash, itching, and allergic reactions, which require immediate medical attention.

Regarding the duration of treatment with Udiliv, it depends on the size and number of gallstones and the individual patient's response to the medication. In general, treatment with Udiliv can last for several months to a few years, and regular monitoring with imaging tests may be required to assess the efficacy of the medication.

It is important to note that while Udiliv can help dissolve or prevent gallstones, it does not guarantee that new stones will not form in the future. Making lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding high-fat foods, and increasing physical activity can help reduce the risk of developing new gallstones.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
