What Are The Side Effects Of Simvastatin?

I have been prescribed Simvastatin on April 12, 2017, for cholesterol. I was prescribed Lipitor in 1996, but, had a severe reaction to it. So, I stopped taking it, changed my diet and the doctor, at that time, acted astonished that my cholesterol. I am concerned about this prescription for Simvastatin 20 mg. I m not sure what to expect and a little more afraid to take it now. How long should I take it, if after experiencing side effects (not being able to fall asleep is a major problem) should I alert my doctor?

i had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Based on the AHA guidelines for the treatment of dyslipidemia, simvastatin is the first generation and lipitor (artovastatin) is the second generation. Simvastatin is low intensity statin while artovastatin is high intensity statin.
if you have a history of side effects on artovastatin and you will be taking simvastatin the side effects may reappear.
My advice you tell your doctor, so that your doctor can give other cholesterol-lowering therapy.
There are still several choices of drug therapy, diet and exercise to lower cholesterol levels.
i hope it will answer your questions and if you have additional quetions or follow up questions then please do not hestitate in writing to us. i will be happy to answer your questions.
wish you good health.
