hi..
thanks for your query. i have gone through it and i completely understand your concern.
Adenoid is a tonsil (mass of lymphatic tissue) located in the roof of nasopharynx where nose and throat meet. this tonsil symptomatically enlarges (bulges in size) in children of age group one to two years old. however it starts shrinking when they reach four to five years of age.
when this tonsil get infected with bacteria it significantly enlarges causing obstruction of airways of nose. At this stage, breathing through nose becomes very uncomfortable to the child and they start breathing through mouth.
i understand this all seems scary but do not worry as it is very treatable. Nasonex spray works better for this case. If i were your treating doctor i would have suggested the same. Nasonex contains a mild steroid called Mometasone furoate. it has anti-inflammatory action and helps in clearing the blocked airways. Ebastel is an anti allergic medication given for the same purpose. these medications are usually prescribed for two weeks depending upon the severity of the nasal block. symptoms should start subsiding and your son should be feeling better after one week of the course.
side effects of nasonex are minor causing stinging/burning at the site of application. major side effects are very rare so you can safely use the spray. hope my answer helped. have a good health. thank you
