What Are The Side Effects From Prozac?

I would like to get some information on Prozac, it s side effects, what it is used for and would like an opinion on putting my 28 year old on it. He has had a substance abuse issue in the past. He has just started a program for dual diagnosis; depression and substance abuse. The treatment center wants to put him on Prozac but I am concerned in general, putting him on any type of medication. The treatment center is aware of his past.

hello..
prozac is considered to be one of the safest drug for major depressive disorder..
it belongs to the class of SSRI..it has very good side effect profile..
weaning off is also easy compared to other older class of drugs..
for major depression counselling/CBT is not just sufficient so prozac can be taken without any hesitation..
when the patient feels better it is gradually weaned off over months..
also try meditation along with the drugs and other treatments..it doesn't have any side effects and works very well

hope my answer helps you
if you have any more queries i would be happy to answer..
I find this answer helpful
