What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Ciproflaxin?

I have an appointment Tuesday morning 11am for a prostate biopsy. At present on heart meds: Metoprolol Er Succinate 100mg,(once a day), Enalapril 20mg (twice a day, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg (one a day), and in the evening take before bedtime, Atorvastain 20mg. My Urologist, informed me to have an Enema the day before the procedure, and to take 1 Tablet twice a day, on Monday of: Ciproflaxin 500mg. As Ciproflaxin is a potent tab, I am gravely concerned after reading up about this medication.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ciprofloxacin is a drug that as any other drug has potential side effects. These may be gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea or neurological with agitation, insomnia, anxiety, etc. Rarely patients may have problems with the tendons and predisposing to tendon rupture (Achilles tendon mostly).

On the other hand, most of the patients do tolerate this drug well and have no side effects with its use. It is important that you follow the instructions of your doctor when taking ciprofloxacin and if you have any complaints, you should let your doctor know as soon as possible.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

Regards,
