What Are The Differences Between Herpes And Fungal Infection?

I just got checked today for STDs, my main worry is that I have herpes, it started in the groin area between the genitals and the pubic region inside thigh. The doctor said this is a very common place for a fungal infection and does not look like herpes. She was not able to take a test because there was not way to. But as I got out of the shower just now I noticed a red circle with a red dot on the shaft of my penis which has me worried.
