What Are The Black Specks Around The Vaginal Area?

I have a 15 year old miniature boarder collie female. Never spade and never a mother. She seems to rub her bottom in the snow regularly-and whine to me as if to tell me the trouble. I rolled her over today to find a couple of black specks at the mouth of her vagina at the heads end. This seems to be where the irritant lies. What can be done? What is this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Blackish discolouration can occur due to hormonal imbalance. Vaginal examination is essential to rue out any bruise, melanoma or wart like growth or abnormal vaginal discharge. Vaginal infections should be ruled out. A course of antibiotics can be taken in case of bacterial or fungal infections. Vaginal hygiene and ph should be maintained. Various vaginal washes are available for the same. Excess vaginal hair can also be trimmed.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
