Vertical Hysterectomy At Young Age, Past Menopause, Ovarian Cyst On Right Ovary. Is It Necessary To Be Removed?

I am 69.5 years old. I had a vertical hysterectomy when I was 21 years old. I am past menopause and I have ovarian cyst on my right ovary. It evidently has been there for years. Do I need to have this removed and also take the ovaries out. I has a ct scan that found this and last thursday I had a pelvic ultra sound. Both on the outside and inside.
Thanks,
Sonjia Jewell

Hi Ms. Jewell,
If the cyst is small in size and is asymptomatic, it can be observed without any active intervention. If the scan shows a simple cyst, you need not worry. Otherwise, you may go for removal; removal of ovaries at the same time also can be contemplated to make things easier later on. Please discuss with your gynecologist on further issues. IHC can be done with laparoscopic cyst removal and further treatment planned. Hope you find this answer useful. Wish you good health.
