Unprotected Sex With Stranger, Partner Had Previous Relationships. Chances Of Contracting HIV?
Hi, I m a 22 year old male, and I had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman that I had just met. We had sex three different times in one night. A few days later she told me that she had unprotected sex before with another male about four to five weeks ago. She said up until now she hasn t had any symptoms. I know that sometimes symptoms take up to three months to appear. How worried should I be? I haven t had any symptoms as of yet. What is the probability that I will be diagnosed with HIV? And the probably that I caught HIV should she have been infected earlier by that male or any other encounter?
HI, Welcome to HCM, I am Dr. Das
First of all, for your kind information, symptoms may also appear even after 6 months.
So, it was better to have a post exposure prophylaxis as soon as you discover the problems.
Whatever, now, it cant be said what is the probability of getting infected. Because it depends on entirely on the persons you had sexual activity. If the have any infection, there is defionitechance of getting infected.
You can do p24 assay after 14 days of exposure if it is negative, then ithere is minimal chance of getting infected. And apart from that you have to do Elisa test for HIV1&2 after 3 and 6 months.
