Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Glycomet is metformin and is the first line of drug. You can take it up to 2500mg per day and SR formulations are good alternative to plain drug. GP2 is a sulfonyl urea group drugs and these can cause hypoglycemia.
Q. 1. can I buy SR element seperately from Market and continuue Using Glycomet. SR suggests sustained release and not a separate component. Q. 2. I will have to buy Glycomer SR completely afresh Yes you have to buy it fresh.
Consult your doctor for examination and management. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
Hello, Since you are getting attacks of hypoglycaemia, your doctor has rightly stopped GP ( glimmipride ) and let you continue the GLYCOMET. GLYCOMET SR is a sustained release preparation of GLYCOMET and is generally prescribed to reduce the side effects of metformin but there is no difference in GLYCOMET and GLYCOMET SR,as far as glycemic control is concerned. You may continue using GLYCOMET 1gm tablet ,which you are possessing with you. There is no separate SR element available in market as both GLYCOMET and GLYCOMET SR are almost same. Thanks
Hi, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic, You are diabetic and taking oral hypoglycemic drugs namely GLYCOMET and GP2.
You are having low blood sugar level that is why GP2 (Glimepiride 2mg) is sulfonylurea is stopped. Glycomet SR is formulation and it is slow release so you have to take GLYCOMET SR a fresh.
Instead of plain formulation SR that is slow release formulation chances of low blood sugar are much less. Hope this solves your problem.
THERE IS MOLECULAR FORMULATION DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GLYCOMET AND GLYCOMET SR, SR MEANS SUSTAINED RELEASE
WHICH WILL CAT FOR A LONG TIME, SO IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE THE TABLET ONCE A DAY THEN SR PREPARATIONS ARE USEFUL BECAUSE IT CAUSES LESS GASTRIC IRRITABILITY AND IT ACTS FOR A PROLONGED TIME.
SO TRY TO TAKE METFORMIN 1000 GM SR RELEASE TABLETS ONLY IF YOUR DOCTOR PRESCRIBED THE SAME.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Glycomet S R means slow releasing tablet. As you sated that your sugar level falls hence your doctor stopped the G P . Now this S R tablet will release slowly and it will control sugar level according to need. In this type of drugs there are no chances of sudden sugar level falls. Good luck. Dr. HET
