Teenager. Lack Of Energy, Decreased Appetite, Nausea From Food Intake, Sleeping A Lot. Suggestions?

Hello, I am thirteen years old. I have absolutely no idea what I might have, disease or not. Recently since school ended I am always sleeping and barely ever have energy to do what I want such as running, playing, karate. I also feel nauseous if I eat even I small portion so I haven't eaten much within the past couple weeks which I know isn't healthy. I'm really scared about my over sleeping for fear of obtaining sleep apnea. What suggestions do you have?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, Welcome to HCM.

I understand your situation and is quite common. The symptoms you have given can be due to various reasons. These can be due stress and changes that take place at your age (pubertal). However, based on the information you have provided it could be that your thyroid gland may be under-functioning (decrease in thyroid hormones in the blood). I will advise that you consult your primary physician and get your condition evaluated particularly your thyroid (blood levels for TSH, T3, T4).

Hope this helps.
