Swollen Ankles, Numb Tongue. Recently Given Birth. Done Blood Transfusion. Cause?

My daughter gave birth 9 days ago to a 10lb baby. She had a third degree tear and had to have surgery. She then had a blood transfusion 6 days later.
while pregnant, she had carpel tunnel but it has gone. Her ankles are still swollen, she is a big girl and 37 years old. She has just said today that her tongue has gone numb and I was just wondering what would cause this? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Your daughter's new born child's birth weight is just above average and delivered by caesarean. Pedal edema may be there for a few more days till she walks around and when she lies down - ask her to keep her foot elevated.
Have her abdomen examined and kidney function can be assessed.
The numbness of the tongue - even though nerve damage is blamed - it can be due to allergy, antibiotics, because of bad oral hygiene. Even pregnancy can produce numbness of the tongue.
Wait patiently, maintain oral hygiene, a course of anti amoebic + multi vitamin tabs can be tried.
If numbness persists and edema persist consult the Dr.
Best wishes.
