Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m a 37 year old female that was just recently diagnosed with PCOS. I m obese and addicted to sugar. I am exhausted all the time and would sleep day and night if I could. I don t know for sure, but feel that I have pre-diabetes because of the above symptoms. What is the best way to rid these sugar cravings? I feel the sugar is killing me!
I would suggest you to check blood sugar levels both fasting and postprandial to rule out diabetes and insulin resistance. I would suggest you to stop sugar and sugar containing food.Instead of avoiding sugar completely, reduce the intake little by little so that the craving does not increase.
Substitute with artificial sweetener wherever possible.Eat in smaller portions. In case of high sugar levels, you may have to be started with metformin. Physical activity of at least half an hour a day and mind relaxation techniques will help in regulating your body weight and blood sugar levels.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
