Suggest Treatment That Help Relieve Stiffness And Pain In The Neck

I had a facet joint injection in November 2015. Since then my neck pain was more acute and stiff. I have been in physical therapy, chiropractors (2) acupuncture (2) acupressure (11 sessions) deep tissue massage (2 sessions) Nobody has helped. I have been depressed and with desire to die because the pain is horrible. At least now I am sleeping at night because my Rheumatologist has prescribed Northtriptyline and Neurontin. Now I am taking a new medication that is not approved in US. I ordered on line. The name is ARCOXIA. My nephew told me he took and it was the only drug that help with pain when he broke his clavicle. I took last night 60mg. I slept good and for the first time I did not have much pain in my neck and I could walk fast (I have arthritis). I am concern about taking the medication because it not approved in Usa. Do you know what therapy could help me with the stiffness and pain in my neck without taking drugs? Thanks Rosa

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Due to improper posture, you had probably got a spasm of your neck muscles and probably it was more on the right side. You had done the right thing by doing neck exercises.

However, in such cases taking paracetamol and hot compress can also be relieving.

If it is of shorter duration, initially can be managed with analgesics and muscle relaxants (I prescribe aceclofenac and chlorzoxazone to my patients).

If symptoms are persisting, we need to take an x-ray to rule out cervical spondylosis or any other pathologies. Meanwhile, you can do something to minimize the pain:

1) avoid constant head posture for long
2) use neck muscle tightening exercises
3) a cervical collar may also help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
