Suggest Treatment For Weight Gain Due To Hypothyroidism

Dear Doctor,
I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism ( Graves ) and was put on RIA and Carbimazole 2 years back. Then I became hypothyroid. I am currently taking 50mcg of Thyronorm . My thyroid levels were in the normal range 2 months back. I am now, putting on a lot of weight.I have gained around 16 kgs thus far. I do not work out much in the form of exercise, as I hardly have the time or the energy even to walk. I am also suffering from Grave's Eye Disease with a slight exopthalmos of the left eye, diplopia , and lid lag. Please kindly advise as I am worried about this weight gain

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi,

Related to thyroid disease if you are gaining weight it is related to improperly treated hypothyroidism. If I were your treating physician I would have checked your thyroid function test and if your TSH is high I would increase your thyroxine dose.
If Thyroid function test is normal, you should get evaluated for weight gain. Usual test are blood glucose, lipid profile, liver function test, electrolytes

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help you,

Regards
