Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Infection

I have an infection in my clitoris. (This is probably the 15 th time over a period of 15 years. Usually occurs when i have not been sexually active for months ( 6 to 24). Each time a large amount of pus has been drained and I was given antibiotics, never the same. I think once I was given Doxycycline. I have never been diagnosed with an STD. It is extremely painful. Can you recommend an antibiotic as it is growing larger and more painful every day. I have no health insurance and have been unemployed since January.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Genital infections are best treated with antibiotics with anaerobic and gram-negative coverage like cefotetan. However, your doctor will need to do drainage if the abscess is large and send for culture and sensitivity. Antibiotics will need a prescription as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
