Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Dryness Along With Chronic Vulvar Pain

I AM a 67 year old healthy woman. I have had vaginal dryness so bad that my husband and I haven t had intercourse for over a year. I have chronic pain and I m on a lot of pain medicine. I know I will probably be on it the rest of my life. I would just like to have the ability to be affectionate with my husband without pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
I understand your concern
Vaginal dryness is common with age after menopause and in your case may be excaberated by the medications.
If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Inintial assessment by gynaecologist to rule out other causes than low estrogen levels that cause vaginal dryness.May require certain tests and biopsy.
-Topical application of estrogen containing ointment for 3-4 weeks in decreasing doses.(prescription drug)
-Keep yourself stress free and relax fully before having intercourse.
You can do yoga, meditation to destress yourself.
-Avoid using any commercial scented moisturizers and cream
-Stay well hydrated.Have balanced diet.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards.
