My daughter was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. She had a very severe urinary tract infection (borderline septic) that caused the anti seizure medication not to work, and consequently had a very long seizure. Is this normal, and are there anti seizure meds that don't loose their potency when an infection is present in the body.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* The UTI management guidelines for your case:
- Allow her more liquids.
- Get a urine culture report done and discuss further course of antibiotic for the same.
- Usually if infection is taken well care, the anti epileptic drugs do not loss their potency.
Wish her fine recovery.
Take care.
