Suggest Treatment For Upper Respiratory Infection

I developed an upper respiratory infection in September and was prescribed a steroid shot, cough medicine, and penicillin. My flu-like symptoms improved and even my cough. However, it is now November, and I still have this unusual cough that will strike anytime. Just as my onset started, it tends to be associated with the right lung. I also have wheezing associated with it, pain around my right should blade, and am very tired. I have also noticed some symptoms of fluid retention, joint pain, and food not going done real good.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have upper respiratory infection, I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist/ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should take antibiotics such as Levofloxacin or Azithromycin for 5-7 days. You should Chew a Vitamin C pellet. Take decongestants and mucolytic agents. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. Take cough expectorants. You should take anti inflammatory medication as well. You should use throat lozenges and go rinses with warm saline water. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should get blood test , throat swab test done. You should get an x ray of the chest and pulmonary function tests done as well to know the exact extent of infection and can start treatment accordingly. Gargle with saline rinses.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
