Suggest Treatment For Unconsciousness After Injury In Kids
I took my son 8 years old 70lbs and no medical history into childrens tonight. He collided with another boy at football practice last night and passed out for about a minute. This is the 3rd time he has passed out like that in the last couple of years. They did an EKG at childrens and it showed no arythmia but his heart rate was 44. They referred me to a specialist at the clinic. Just wondering if anyone has some words of encouragement. He is in very good shape and conditions really hard. Plays football, baseball, and wrestles
Hi....athletes usually have a slower heart rates than general population.
But in general there will not be any passing out episodes like. As the kid is symptomatic (passed out thrice), I suggest we need to investigate for a heart block. Rather than taking an ECG once, I suggest taking a Holter monitoring. It is a 24 hourECG. I would also prefer to get an echocardiogram done. The other which I would prefer to do will be an EEG.
Once all of these 3 tests turn out to be normal, then we can attribute the slower heart rate for his athletic training and be rest assured.
