General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Throat pain and swallowing difficulty may be caused by sore throat. This condition is mostly caused by throat infection by respiratory viruses and may need only symptomatic treatment. However, bacteria infection or superinfection are also possible and will require antibiotics. This condition could as well be caused by allergy or reaction to environmental irritants like dust, smoke and cold.I will suggest you try the following:
-Take an anti-histamin like benadryl
-A steroidal anti-inflammatory like dexamethasone
-Gargle with warm salt water many times per day
-Avoid smoke, dust and cold
-Take frequent sips of water
If symptoms peersist, you see the Doctor to examine your through and judge the need for antibiotics. Most bacteria throat infections will respond well on penicillin group of antibiotics like amoxicillin.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
