Suggest Treatment For Swollen Upper Lip

Hi I have sleep apnea and suddenly developed a sever swollen upper lip. I took Benadryl approx 3 hours ago and went for a nap as I was to go in on night shift. I woke up even more swollen on the upper lip and right side of my face. I have no idea what is happening and this has never happened before? I don't have any known food allergies and I did not eat anything out of the norm...HELP??!!

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Swollen upper lip can be due to many reasons
1.Swollen lips are a common symptom of an allergic reaction. Contact with any allergen like pet dander, certain foods can cause it.
2.Swollen lips are a common symptom of angioedema(severe anaphylactic reaction). triggers of angiodema are certain foods, pollen, medicines, insect bites, etc
Patients will have swollen eyes also. It is a medical emergency.
3.Swollen upper lip may be symptom of a dental abscess.
4. Other causes are cold sore caused by herpes simplex virus, fluid retention in body, nutritional deficency , etc
5. Due to trauma
Treatment depends on cause, Antihistamines like cetrizine & Anti-inflammatory medicines can be tried
Best way is to visit a doctor/oral physician, he would make a diagnosis and treat according to it.

Don't worry you would be fine
Hoping your query is solved.
