Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lower Lip And A Cut Under The Swelling

I have a swollen lower lip and a cut just under the swelling where it seemed to have started after shaving. I have been treating it with anti bacterial washes and witch hazel. I have some Clindamycin HCL 300mg I have taken in the past for an infection but nothing seems to be working. This started 4 days ago.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since there was a cut during shaving, the infection traveled easily to the subcutaneous area and thus the problem.
* Continue Clindamycin or may need to shift to Amoxicillin under prescription of your Doctor
* Take Ibuprofen or so if it suits you for anti-inflammatory effect
* Applying anything locally may not help as the infection is deep seated
* Since 4 days have elapsed a possibility of abscess should be watched for and if present then should be drained by a specialist
* Do not fondle the area as infection and inflammation spreads easily
* You may clean the area with aftershave as it contains spirit

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
