Hello, I am an 18 year old female on birth control and currently menstruating. One of my breasts was sore, so I was massaging it, and for some reason, felt compelled to jiggle it very rapidly. It s now quite swollen and larger than the other breast. Could I have injured it?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I have gone through your query & understand your concern. Some birth control pills have side effect of breast soreness. Breast tissue is a delicate tissue made of milk glands, ducts, blood vessels, fat tissue. On handling it further, breast tissue can get irritated/inflammed due to injury. Please do not massage breast any more. You can foment it with hot pack/ apply ointment Thrombophobe/ take non steroidal anti inflammatory pills ( over the counter ) twice a day after food. The problem should resolve within 5-7 days. Consult a gynecologist in case it gets more painful/ associated with fever. Thanks. This should resolve
