Suggest Treatment For Stress And Depression

Hello Dr. Mukerji,

This is my first time on this site, which shows how important this means to me. This is someone in my family who has problems I want to discuss with you. He is 20 years old, has no previous medical history of this problem.
The problem is every time one of my family members makes a mistake (even if it is little) and he goes into a state of pure rage. He screams at the top of his lungs and sometimes gets physical and may throw things or may try to attack us. Sometimes my presence alone triggers his rage, and we have to be separated. He always projects his personality onto us and doesnâ??t give us a chance to reason with him. Itâ??s as if itâ??s a whole new identity. Also, he feels as though he has to be the right one all the time, if no one thinks heâ??s right, then that means everyone is against him.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

He is 20 years old and have violent abusive behaviour. He causes harm to other both physically and verbally. He develop rage when even someone makes a mistake. As he is 20 so diagnosis of some personality disorder should not be kept as first possibility. Such symptoms could occur due to some mood disorder possibly bipolar disorder. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for evaluation and treatment. Medicines like mood stabilisers as sodium valproate, lithium carbonate can help to control mood elevations. If he refuse to go to a psychiatrist then medicines like Risperidone can be given. The drug is available in tasteless and odourless preparation and can be given to patient by mixing with food. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of drug.

Thanks, hope this helps you
