Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, stuffy Nose And Loss Of Appetite

My 16 year old son has a stuffy nose, cough that causes a sore chest, loss of appetite, chills and hot periods and achy knees. It has been four days. Should he go to a doctor or are we just sealing with the flu or a virus. He gets strep throats each year.

Hello,

It is very likely this is a flu or other common viral infection that will take a week and will go away. Strep throat generally does not cause stuffy nose and cough, these go more with a viral infection.

If there is no fever longer then 3-4 days there is nothing to worry.

Sometimes a viral infection may get complicated with strep throat but this would mean that instead of him improving in the next 3-4 days he gets worse and the throat gets worse and in this case, he needs to see his doctor.

If fever lasts more then 3-4 days is another reason to see the doctor, it might still be a viral infection but it is better to make sure.

Meanwhile, he can take paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with aches and pains and drink plenty of fluid, try to eat a frequent small amount of food to help with the appetite and rest well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
