Suggest Treatment For Slightly Painful Lump In Neck, Nausea And Fatigue

Hi there, My daughter who has just turned 13 has just found a lump on the right side of her neck, which she finds slightly painfull but nothing untoward. Over the past 7 months or so she has been feeling unwell on and off, headaches on the right side of her temples, nauseas, sickness, fatigue, loss of appetite when unwell, painful knee and she recently has has like blood spot rashes and one on her face. This unwellness has a sudden onset amd is becoming more frequent. Although she can be absolutely fine most of the time then all of a sudden is unwell. Is there any suggestions as to what this could be? She has just had her bloods taken this morning at our GP Kindest regards Fiona

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Symptoms of nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, headache, painful knee, lump on right side of neck and red colored rash on face are suggestive of a viral infection.
Symptomatic treatment is required.
In case there is fever, you can take anti-pyretic to control the fever, pain killer to control pain, etc.
An aspiration cytology of the neck swelling needs to be done.
In aspiration cytology, cells are aspirated from the swelling using a fine needle.
The aspirated cells are spread on a glass slide and stained with appropriate stains.
The cells are studied microscopically to determine the nature of the lesion.
A X-ray of knee needs to be done to look for presence of any effusion.
In case effusion is present, the fluid needs to be aspirated for microscopic examination.
Wait for the result of blood examination.
Viral infection is characterised by elevated lymphocyte count.

Thanks and take care
