Suggest Treatment For Sleeplessness And Hallucinations

I AM TAKING METROPROLOL SUCC AND HAVING SLEEP PROBLEM AND SOMETIMES HALLUCINATIONS. I TAKE IT AT 10:00 AM AND AM WONDERING IF I TAKE IT AT AROUND 9 PM WHEN MELATONIN STARTS KICKING IN IF I COULD SLEEP BETTER. MY THINKING IS METRO WON'T KICK IN UNTIL I AT LEAST GET 4 HOURS OF GOOD SLEEP. THAT WOULD BE NICE.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi

I had gone through your query.

Metoprolol can not help in sleep problem. It is just control your anxiety.

Melatonin is different molecule than metoprolol and it is helpful for sleep problem. Zolpidam is very useful if you are having sleep onset insomnia.

So you have multiple options but require detail psychological evaluation before taking any of this medicines.

Sleep hygiene like fix sleep schedule and avoid day time sleep are also helpful.

Avoid alcohol/smoking/soft drinking before going to sleep.

Treatment of psychological stress will helpful to restore good sleep.

So consult Psychiatrist and get further assistance.

Thank you.
Get well soon.
