Suggest Treatment For Sinus Infection And Hives On Neck And Face

My husband started taking Sulfamethoxazole today at 4:00 pm for a sinus infection. Around 10:00 pm he started itching real bad but we had company so he didn t say anything. About 12:30am he told me about it and I saw he was covered with hives on his neck and face. He took 2 Benadryl. Then a few minutes ago he showed me his chest and its covered! The Benadryl doesn t seem to be working. Any suggestions?

HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

It seems like a drug allergy. First of all stop taking Sulfamethoxazole. Most of the drug reactions will last for 1 -2 days and then go off on their own .

You can continue taking Benadryl for 1-2 days more , but if itching is very much then you better consult your doctor and ask for Atarax and Wysolone prescription . This medication will give him lot of relief.

You can even try Calamine lotion before going to doctor.

Hope this information is useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.
