Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Spironolacton

I was recently prescribed Spironolacton 25mg. I was diagnosed with fatty liver with cirrhosis 13 years ago. Now I have lower leg edema from the cirrhosis so my physician prescribed this. first 2 times I took it I became very nauseated. The 3rd time I took it I vomited. Now I don t want to take it. Is it effective to insert it into my rectum for treatment of the adema?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I could understand your concern, however it is not at all advisable to take oral drugs by rectum. If you are experiencing side effects after taking spironolactone its advisable that you stop taking the drug and follow up with your physician. He might order a blood panel and consider placing you on another diuretic drug or other form of treatment for the edema.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manoj Pradeep
