Suggest Treatment For Severe Red Spots On Tongue

Hello. I have several red areas on my tongue which are sensitive to acidic foods and feel slightly numb or dry the rest of the time. This has been noticeable for a few weeks. At first I thought I may have burned my tongue on something hot, but since the problem has not cleared up I wonder what to do or what it could be?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain red areas on tongue along with pain and sensitivity can be due to either Canker sores or apthous ulcers..

It can also be due to burn injury occurred due to any hot food leading to inflammation of tongue..

It can also be due to allergic reaction to some food or medication if you are taking ..

One more reason can be due to a type of yeast infection known as Atrophic Candidiasis in which tongue appears red and raw..

Since it is already many weeks you should consult an oral pathologist and get evaluated as the treatment will be planned accordingly..

In case of canker sores as it's long standing steroid therapy oral and topical is needed..

In case of burns also steroids will be required..

If it is due to allergic reaction removal of allergen along with antihistamine intake like benadryl or allegra can be relieving..

In case of yeast infection antifungal medicines like fluconazole and nystatin mouth washes are advised..

For all the conditions few other precautions are..

Avoid hot , spicy and sour foods..

Take cool and soft diet..

Maintain a good hydration and a proper oral hygiene..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
