Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain And Soreness In The Knee

I recently had severe leg pain for approximately 2 weeks in my left thigh, in the front of it all the way to my knee. It was difficult to walk. I even went to the emergency room. They gave me some Tylenol #3. I saw 3 Doctors and none of them knew what the problem was. It was a constant dull pain, I was up for days all night long with the throbbing pain. My Doctor did give me a script for Meloxican but even after I started taking it, the pain continued. Now, I feel like my leg has areas of numbness and is sore in areas. I am a diabetic, I am a Nurse and I spend a great deal of time on my feet. I also get very painful cramps during the night lasting about 10-15 minutes where the pain is so bad I am crying and screaming at times.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to nerve compression syndrome Meralgia paresthetica (lateral femoral cutaneous nerve). This can occur in diabetics or as a result of those wearing tight clothing for prolonged period or prolonged compression at groin region by things like belt.
A physical examination by an orthopedician followed by nerve conduction studies will be required to rule out this. Nerve block will give relief for this also. NSAIDs , neurotropics like pregabalin and methylcobalamin will be helpful for this. Blood sugar should be kept in normal levels also. Wear loose clothing and avoid belts. Decreasing abdominal circumference also helps.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
