Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety While Breastfeeding

I m 42 still breastfeeding my almost two year old...history of anxiety...not taking meds. For two days I ve been experiencing hot flashes and a weird feeling in my Brody before they happen...they only last for a little bit but they are scary. I m also going to start my cycle any day. On top of these horrible hot flashes which are worse in the night and before I get out of bed I notice I wake up jittery and shaky and my heart feels like it s racing but quickly goes away once I tel myself to calm down and I get up out of bed and walk a round a little. I took my blood pressure today and it read that it was Optimal. I m confused and scared. Not sure if it s something hormonal or something peri menopause? Or more serious. Scared! M.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have perimenopause symptoms. You are suggested to get examined by your gynae & get blood tests done to check your hormone levels. You may need HRT.

You can use low dose birth control pills to reduce the discomfort due to hot flashes. Hot flashes can also get controlled with birth control patch pr progesterone injections.

Quit smoking, alcohol & addictions if any. Take adequate sleep, stay rehydrated and exercise regularly.

Mood swings can be controlled with antidepressants. Take food rich in vitamin E or vitamin E supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
