Hello,

You have history of alcohol abuse since a long time & now are experiencing right sided chest pain. Commonly chest pain in heavy drinkers are caused due to cardiomyopathy or pancreatitis. Increased alcohol intake causes weight gain and hence, high blood pressure leading to risk for having a heart attack or a stroke.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a cardiologist. Get all routine cardiac examinations done like blood tests (CBC, Lipid function tests), cardiac MRI, CT, ECG, Echo, stress test, chest X-ray, treadmill stress test, etc. You are suggested to give up drinking alcohol, take the help of a detox center. The symptoms of heart attack can be controlled by making dietary changes & conservative treatment. Avoid strenuous exercises. You may need medications to control BP. Your treating doctor may recommend pacemaker if required. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
