Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Shingles Infection

I have shingles for the second time . The lesions are across the left side of my face , spreading from nose, cheek, chin and neck. The first time I had them it was under my right breast, spreading across to right hip area . This happened 5 weeks after back surgery . As the area started to heal, I developed a large abscess and infection . I was admitted to the hospital and had surgery immediately to remove abscess and drain the area of infection . The culture revealed positive MRSA. Then treated with a combination of IV, antibiotics for about a week . Can you tell me what the protocol is to treat and prevent infection ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Getting Shingles vaccine every year if you are over 60 can help prevent shingles recurrence.
You can also consider long term acyclovir therapy to prevent recurrence.
Please follow up with your doctor to see if long term acyclovir is right for you.

Hope this answers your question
