Suggest Treatment For Rashes On Chest While On Tarceva

OMG thank you. My husband is on Tarceva and has now come out in the rash on his chest, up his neck and now starting a little on his face. The oncology doctor has given me Doxycycline for my husband to take. The side effects on this medication are horrendous so I am thinking as it is not bothering him at the moment should I not give it to him. Could you help me in making this decision. Thank you Lorraine Golding

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think he is suffering an allergic reaction to Tarceva. The most important thing to do is to stop the medication. Then you can use antihistamines such as Benadryl or Cetirizine for itching and rash. If it continues to get worse and swollen and cause breathing difficulty, you can go to ER for Epinephrine and Prednisone injections.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
