Suggest Treatment For Rashes At Incision Site After Hip Replacement Surgery
I had a total hip replacement 1 month ago and after 3 weeks started to develop a rash in the area the surgical bandage was covering the incision site. Was seen for 1 month follow up and was told it is a delayed allergic reaction to the bandage, and to start 1% steroid cream and take Benadryl to help with the itching. Nothing is helping and it seems the rash is spreading past where the bandage was covering the the incision site. I have been using the steroid cream for 5 days and have had no results, any insight is appreciated. Thank you
The symptoms seem to be related to a an allergic reaction, probably due to the bandage. I suggest to use the steroid cream for local application. I also suggest using the antihistamines such as Cetirizine 10 mg daily to relieve the itching.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
