Suggest Treatment For Psoriasis

I am on amoxicillin as treatment for strep throat. I also has psoriasis. My psoriasis began to flare up covering most of my body worse than it ever has when I started the antibiotics. It s almost like hives but definitely psoriasis. It is almost unbearable how itchy it is. I don t want to stop taking the antibiotics. I know I should contact my provider but do you have any advice until I can speak with her?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You are right. Psoriasis can get flares. I think it's more the streptococcus that has caused the flare as that is a more common cause of flare. Though drugs can also cause it amoxicillin is less likely to do so.

Until you see your doctor, I would advise applying generous emollient like white petroleum jelly, along with potent steroids, both can be mixed and applied (not to be used in the face). This would help a lot.

You can also use some antihistamine like Zyrtec for itching. Go to ER if any time you feel sick or dehydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
