I am 50 years old and am having bleeding since the 2nd of Feb. It is not heavy, but is very un nerving. Wearing a pad for so many days is irritating. Sometimes it is fresh red blood and sometimes it is brown. I want it to end. Will Gynae CVP three tabs in a day for 5 days help me? Is an ultrasound of the lower abdomen inevitable?
Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. I have few suggestions to make in the current scenario: 1. Considering your age, which is very likely to be perimenopausal, abnormal bleeding/spotting of such prolonged duration should definitely be investigated. You need a complete clinical evaluation, pap smear, pelvic ultrasound preferably in the trans-vaginal route, hormone profile, routine blood counts and urinalysis. 2. Styptics can be used to try to control the spotting. Ethamsylate is a better choice. However, no bleeding is permanently controlled unless the root cause is treated. Local causes like erosions, infections and polyps should be excluded. Hormones are needed to arrest the bleeding most often. One or two courses may be given. 3. The nature of the spotting shows that the discharge is stagnant and hence the altered color. 4. Please maintain a healthy diet, healthy weight and proper genital hygiene. Hope this helps.
