Suggest Treatment For Polyneuropathy

I am 59 years old person from a remote village of North Bengal namely Kaliyaganj near Malda. Sir i am suffering from polyneuropathy from last six months. The main problems i had that my legs got senseless most of the times, i got a sensational burning in my Foot and palms, and i am unable to walk properly as mylegs used to get disbalanced. I consulted here Dr N. R. haldar at Siliguri. He Suggested me to do some of this tests i.e. Electromyography, Nerve Conduction Velocity & Evoked Potential (Visual, Auditory,Somatosensory) Studies. The Report results with a impression : Nerve Conduction Study is Suggestive of Sensory Neuropathic Changes Seen in both legs. He prescribed me some of the medicines GABAWIN 75 (Pregabalin Tablets) six tablets daily, OSLOL TR 80 two tablets daily, ESP-2 three tablets daily. I am having these medicenes regularly from last 5 months, I want to mention here that i am a NON Diabetic and NON Alcoholic Person but I am addicted to have 5 ciggrates daily. I do not have any problem regarding sugar but my pressure remains low on an average of 60/110. I have no problem regarding my sleep or movements of any body parts. Again i want to mention here that i regularly exercise Yoga for last 20 years and have my diets on very much controlled way. Sir after having these medicines for 5 months i can just feel some relaxation in burning sensation of my palms but all other problems are as it is as they were earlier. Sir, very humbly i want to request you to help me by guiding me in this situation. I want to know that under this circumstances and situations the problems i am facing, are they curable at your Bangalore Center ? And if Yes please guide me how should i proceed to have an appointment with the best person you think i should contact. And if No, what should i do, wether i should continue these medicines? Will these medicines may cause any other new problems if they are continued?. Sir, I earnestly request you to help me in this pathetic situation. I hope you will consider my this small request at your end and give me some minutes from your very busy schedule. Once again looking forward for your kind reply in this regard, Thanking you HANSRAJ AGARWALA

Hello,

Well, with understanding your history I can understand that the doctor has diagnosed you with polyneuropathy. So you are currently on the medications. Well, firstly to say, it's difficult to comment with just having a written history as in medical we need to even check for the clinical examination too. Reports can help us understand the patho-physiological pattern but the actual involvement of the dermatomes and myotomes are a bit difficult just with the words. Clinical examination can help reveal a lot of details.

Now coming to the point you have asked for. Well, I feel you have a disturbance in your spinal column and also there is muscular imbalance in your lower limbs as well along with back. As you mentioned you are performing yoga (well it's just a word used by you and yoga is a wide subject with what actual yoga-asanas you are doing and how accurate they are) - sorry but don't take me wrong here - As you mentioned you are performing yoga we need to know the muscle strength as you may have made the muscle more flexible.

Now understanding the physiology of human body, the human body muscles lose a number of muscle fibers as age progresses. So the stretched muscle will be more weaker but the joint will be more mobile. So to understand the actual biomechanics of the body we need a clinical examination and also a proper guidance. The medicine mentioned by your physician is fair enough.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
