Suggest Treatment For Polyarthritis And Lower Spinal Stenosis

My family and I moved from Illinois to Washington state and I just saw my new rheumatologist today. I have been taking meds for polyarthritis, osteo arthritis and upper and lower spinal stenosis for about ten years now. I take; Etodolac 400 2x a day, hydrocodone/Tylenol 5/3.5 2-3x a day and cyclobenzaprine 10 mg 3x a day. My new rheumatologist wants me to stop taking the Etodolac on a daily basis and use prednisone when I have a flare up of pain with inflammation- swelling, heat and redness. We did not discuss contraindications with hydro, and he did not ask me to stop taking it. Are they contraindicated, because the info I have read online makes it seem they are?! I m also wondering about my daily joint pain in elbows, hands, knees, hips and back that are NOT always by red, hot to touch inflammation, but ARE accompanied with swelling will get worse if I go off the daily Etodolac. I also take propranolol 10mg 3x day and trihexyphenidyl 1 mg 3-4x day for essential tremmor disorder and a gross motor movement disorder. Are they contraindicated w the prednisone? Lastly, I have an ascending aortic aneurism, if I am off the Etodolac, and only taking the prednisone when I have a full blown flare up, do I need to be on a low dose daily blood thinner because my cardiologist was counting on the Etodolac to take care of that? Thanks for your time and advise! Bonnie

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hydrocodone, Propranolol and Trihexylphenidyl are not contraindicated to be used with Prednisolone. I think you can be on low aspirin dose for the aortic aneurysm while you stop Etodolac. So, you can follow the advice from your Rheumatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
