I have a pilonidal cyst and this is the second time in the last few months that it has occurred. I do not have health insurance and last time ended up in the emergency room to get it drained. I have been getting cysts (or infected ingrown hairs) most of my life, they run in the family, but never in this spot and never this painful. Is there anything I can do to help re leave the pain and get it to drain faster? I waited four days last time before going in and by that point i could not even walk. How do I keep it from coming back?
I can understand your concern for pilonidal cyst and its prevention with treatment.
The main cause of pilonidal cyst is due to the extra hair which gets entangled in the skin and therefore causes more infection and delayed healing.
IN all cases of pilonidal cyst the long term management is by the laser hair reduction. It reduces the chances of formation of cyst and causes prevention of infection.
I suggest you to maintain good hygiene and wear cotton undergarments to be changed for two times. This will prevent the formation of any infection at the affected gluteal area.
You can meet a dermatologist to get further guidance regarding the laser therapy for the pilonidal cyst.
All the best.
