Have been running a fever between 99.6 and 101 for 3-4 weeks. Cough with grey flem. I m on the second coarse of antibiotics and the fever persists 101.1 now. Taking 2 ibuprophen reduces the fever but it comes right back about ever 6-7 hours. Tired of feeling poorly. Any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

There is likely possibility of lower respiratory tract infection in you.

As you have symptoms from 3 to 4 weeks and already on 2nd course of antibiotics you need further evaluation for bacteriological diagnosis.

Possibility of Tuberculosis (TB) should be ruled out on priority.

I would like to advise you -
1) Consult your physician for detailed clinical examinations.
2) Following test help in diagnosis
- Complete blood count.
- ESR.
- Tuberculin test.
- Chest Xray.
- Sputum Examination for gram stain, Zn stain (for TB)
- Sputum culture and sensitivity.
- If required Sputum for KOH mount (for fungal infection).
- Ultrasonography of the and pelvis.

Till that time continue your antibiotics as currently taking.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
