Suggest Treatment For Painful Bump On The Head

I am a 24 yr old female. I recently have had surgery in December. I broke my clavicle and dislocated my sternum. Two days ago I woke up with a bad headache ... Then noticed a lump behind my head on my hairline, at first I thought maybe ingrown hair, pimple because that was the pain I was feeling but it was not only throbbing but giving me this weird headache in the back of my head. I m usually fairly healthy and have 3 small children. I have had a history of a tumor in my right forearm that was removed and replaced with bone marrow 10 yrs ago. It is immovable and painful, it has increased in size over the past 2 days. It is also very stiff. No putter skin marks or bruisings around area or anywhere near. The lump I d say is the site of a chic pea.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Short history of 2 days for a lump at hair line at the back of head with the description you have provided this looks to be infected sebaceous cyst. The scalp cysts gives more pain and become immobile very soon as there is no space for spread and the pressure developed causes the pain.
Considering the history of bone tumor in past a remote possibility of secondary spread can be thought about and should be ruled out.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Take an antibiotic on prescription.
Ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammatory with painkiller properties that suits you in right doses and duration.
Do not fondle or pop the lump.
Consult a General Surgeon if these medicines fail to give results.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
