Suggest Treatment For Pain On Frenulum And Urethra

My frenulum is painful to the touch and my urethra (directly under the frenulum) is occasionaly irritated when urinating. Also had cracked scrotal skin with tinea cruris (jock itch) which apparently caused nerve damage. Could that have spread up to the frenulum? What is going on? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing pain in the urethra and irritation and burning in the frenulum. You also have jock itch infection. Urethral pain is commonly experienced due to infections, urethritis, UTI, jock itch, STIs, local irritation from soaps and spermicides. You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, avoid sex or any other sexual activity/ self pleasuring till you are being treated.

Get clinically examined by a urologist, get STD tests, urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done. You will be treated accordingly. Yes, it can also be jock itch infection. You can apply antifungal cream like clotrimazole on the affected area to prevent spread. To avoid itching you can take antihistamine, at bed time.

You can also apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone ointment on the affected area if itching is going out of control. You can take a course of antifungal. Stay away from addictions if any. Do not wear clothes on which you have sweated. Always wear fresh clothes. You should take regular bath and keep your private area clean and dry.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
