Suggest Treatment For Pain Inside And Above Right Tooth

My father, beasicaly healthy 90 year old man, had pain inside and above his right teeth. No rash. He went to his dentist and the dentist took x-rays and said it looks like shingles inside and above his teeth. Can this happen and what can he do to relieve the pain?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms the most common cause for pain in and above teeth is commonly due to gum infection as well as it may be due to decays or attrition of teeth..

But in case if there is no dental problem detected and shingles that is a viral infection is suspected, in the absence of rash it can be misdiagnosed and the dentist must carry out certain investigations like Polymerase Chain Reaction can be carried out.
Direct resonance imaging can give a better diagnosis if the lesion is present and scraping of cells can be taken from it..

So I would suggest you to consult an ORAL PHYSICIAN and get evaluated so that he can evaluate thoroughly as they are experts in making diagnosis and if required necessary laboratory investigations will be carried out and treatment will be planned accordingly..
